Tesla Inc TSLA CEO Elon Musk on Friday gave a rather tongue-in-cheek reply to a fan requesting him to “revolutionize” chip making.
What Happened: “Elon Musk needs to revolutionize chip manufacturing,” the user wrote on X, formerly Twitter, while adding that it is much required for the sake of the West.
Musk responded to the comment with a cheeky, “Oh no, not that too (sigh).” The CEO was possibly hinting at the diverse product array he is already into at Tesla or even across his company portfolio of SpaceX, Tesla, The Boring Company and Neuralink.
“Something needs to be done though,” Musk agreed.
Why It Matters: During Tesla’s second-quarter earnings call in July, Musk clarified that the company uses a lot of chipmaker Nvidia Corp‘s NVDA hardware.
“We’ll continue to take NVIDIA hardware as fast as NVIDIA will deliver it to us. Tremendous respect for Jensen and NVIDIA. They’ve done an incredible job," Musk said.
Nvidia, meanwhile, contracts players such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co to manufacture their chips, taking semiconductor production out of U.S. to Asian countries and leaving it highly volatile to market changes.
